Restored Roots: Breaking the Curse of Generational Trauma

Did you know that the roots of a tree have a huge impact on its growth?

However, rotten roots are not easy to detect as they occur beneath the surface. We wouldn’t know something went wrong unless symptoms appeared in parts of the tree, such as the fruits or leaves.

The same goes for unhealed trauma. It’s hard to detect, and its effects can only be seen through psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression and other mental health issues.

Breaking generational trauma requires courage and self-awareness. It involves recognising the patterns of pain and dysfunction that have been passed down through families and changing them.

While it may be difficult to overcome, we must believe that nothing happens without the permission of Allah (s.w.t.).

As He reassures in the Qur’an,

“No calamity befalls anyone except by Allah’s Will. And whoever has faith in Allah, He will rightly guide their hearts through adversity. And Allah has perfect knowledge of all things.”
(At-Taghabun, 64:11)

Shall we dig deeper and breathe new life into the rotten roots?

Join us in Restored Roots: Breaking the Curse of Generational Trauma, by Sister Yasmin Mogahed, as we learn more about generational trauma and find ways to put a stop to the vicious cycle.
