Meet the Speaker

Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi began his educational journey with a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston. His involvement with the Muslim Students Association and his giving khutbahs and lectures inspired him to leave engineering and study Islam. In 1995, he began his ten-year stint at the Islamic University of Madinah, where he completed a diploma in Arabic, a BA in Hadith Studies, and an MA in Islamic Theology.

Shaykh Yasir then returned to the United States and earned a PhD from Yale University, with a dissertation focusing on the scholarly contributions of Ibn Taymiyyah, a prominent medieval Islamic thinker. He previously served as the dean of the AlMaghrib Institute and was a member of the religious studies department at Rhodes College. Currently, Shaykh Yasir is the chairman of the Fiqh Council of North America, the dean of The Islamic Seminary of America, and a resident scholar at the East Plano Islamic Center in Texas.

Shaykh Yasir is also a prolific author and international speaker, addressing contemporary issues facing the Muslim community through his books and lectures. He is recognised as one of the most influential Muslim scholars in the United States and regularly appears on the list of The 500 Most Influential Muslims.
