Fame & Wealth: Is it worth it?

A recap from Khabib Nurmagomedov Live in Malaysia 2024

Would you want to be rich and famous?

For some, that’s a no-brainer answer. But for public figures, they will hesitate to answer this question.

Let’s take Khabib Nurmagomedov for example, where he mentioned in his event, The Path of A Champion, that fame demands a burdensome price. As an MMA fighter, he is not easily shaken by things. But before the event started, he was not ready for the live interview session. This is because he has to be cautious of every single step he’s planning to take in order to prevent any mistakes.

Interviews reveal a lot about someone from their body language, personality, to their misspoken words. If you’re a public figure, one slip of the tongue can make you an instant meme or the Internet’s Most Hated Person of that month. Unfortunately, famous people are not given the same grace or level of forgiveness for their mistakes like the rest of society.

When regular people make a mistake, they don’t have their mistakes broadcasted all over the nation with an influx of strangers carrying pitchforks to torment them on social media.

Even though we are not celebrities, we too, should always conduct ourselves with grace and poise. As Muslims, we are taught that each step we take and every move we make are being watched by the Almighty.

Even if our words and actions are not being recorded, applauded or seen by other people, we must be mindful of them.

While we might not be able to reach their level of material wealth, we can cultivate good morals and manners to gain a richness of character. Just like Khabib, who is a great ambassador of Islam and is able to spread the good side of his belief to millions of people through his platform.

Let us take a leaf out of his book by promoting the beauty of Islam through our character, just like how our Prophet (s.a.w.) taught us.

In conclusion, we should be more mindful towards our own manners, words and the way we conduct ourselves in prive and public. Ultimately, we should always refer to the Qur’an and sunnah for reference to improve our akhlaq.
