“If our rizq is fixed, then why should we try to earn it?”

Islam teaches us that rizq is predetermined by Allah (s.w.t.), and is distributed according to His will. However, this does not mean that we can passively wait for it to come to us. We must do our part to open the doors of abundance. 

The beauty of rizq is that even though it’s predestined, there’s no limit to achieving it. The more effort we put, the more Allah (s.w.t.) will grant it to us, if He wills it. Thus, we shall continuously strive to increase our rizq.

Yet, there has to be a balance between putting our efforts and relying on The Provider, as mentioned in this hadith:

“If you were to rely upon Allah with the reliance He is due, you would be given provision like the birds: They go out hungry in the morning and come back with full bellies in the evening.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah]

Thus, how can we ensure that our rizq will continue to flow abundantly, like the birds?
