Meet the Speakers

Sonny Bill Williams was a heavyweight boxer and a former professional rugby player. He was only the second player to ever represent New Zealand in rugby union after first playing for the country in rugby league. In 2021, Sonny Bill Williams was honoured with induction into the RugbyPass Hall of Fame.

In 2009, while in France playing for Toulon, Sonny Bill Williams embraced Islam. He was inspired by the happiness and unity he observed in the people he encountered, which he believed embodied the true essence of Islam as a religion of love and peace. With his conversion, he became the first Muslim to play for the All Blacks, and he has spoken extensively about his faith ever since.

Shaykh Wael Ibrahim was born and raised in Alexandria City, Egypt. After moving to Hong Kong City in early 2002, he was very much influenced by the Asian biggest superstar, Leslie Cheung. He worked so hard in the hope of becoming one of the celebrities in Hong Kong.

However, after the star’s suicide in April 2003, Shaykh Wael decided to seek some spiritual growth through education. Though he holds a diploma in commerce and business administration, he started to seek some religious knowledge and completed a BA in Islamic Studies.

Shaykh Wael is now a student counsellor at the Australian Islamic College in Perth, Australia. He is also the founder and chairman of Serving Islam Team in Hong Kong, a professional trainer, and a certified Master Life Coach, and an internationally renowned speaker of Islam.
